Jasper Fire north of Reno 80 percent contained
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nearly half of the firefighters who were battling a wildland blaze north of Reno have been pulled off the fire lines now that it’s 80 percent contained.
The Sierra Front dispatch center said Tuesday they’re moving into the mop-up stage at the fire that has burned nearly 2 square miles of mostly rangeland and destroyed a home and two out buildings near Spanish Springs.
About 120 firefighters remained on the scene Tuesday, down from more than 200 the day before.
At one time, as many as 100 homes were threatened but there have been no reports of any injuries.
Investigators believe two target shooters started the Jasper Fire Saturday afternoon. They’ve been booked on suspicion of destruction of property by fire with gross negligence.
