Foundation commits $1M for Colorado Springs bike park
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A philanthropic foundation has committed $1 million to support a proposed mountain biking park in Colorado Springs.
The Gazette reports the El Pomar Foundation announced Thursday that it will give $100,000 a year for a decade to underwrite the city’s operational expenses on the project.
Transit Mix Concrete released preliminary plans last week for the park to be located at the company’s Pikeview Quarry. The company has offered to the sell the land to city at a discounted rate if it receives permission to mine ranch property south of the city.
Foundation CEO William Hybl says the foundation is opposed to the mining project.
City Parks Director Karen Palus says there is not a timeline for selecting a final location and there is not an estimated cost for the project.
