Harry Potter and the chance encounter
Scene… Over $1.5 million was raised to support survival rates and the quality of life for those affected by breast cancer at the Breast Cancer Alliance’s luncheon and fashion show last Tuesday afternoon at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. The 23rd annual event, with the theme of “For Our Daughters, For Our Future,” brought out 1,000 supporters, and featured a conversation with WCBS-FM radio personality Patty Steele and Alliance’s medical advisory board member Dr. Elisa Port, director of the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai. A runway fashion show from Richards featuring 13 women diagnosed with breast cancer topped off the fundraising event.
Out there… “Today” show co-host and Riverside resident Kathie Lee Gifford will serve as guest speaker at the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce’s Women Who Matter Luncheon. It will take place on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Greenwich Country Club on Doubling Road. Gifford will share her life story with the crowd as well as discuss her new movie “Then Came You;” her children’s book, “The Gift That I Can Give;” and the creation of her own GIFFT wine. Scene… New Canaan resident and photographer Michelle Mercede met up with actor Daniel Radcliffe (better known as the star of “Harry Potter”) in New York City on Saturday, Oct. 20.
Out there… The Greenwich Exchange Gift Boutique will be held at the Round Hill Club in Greenwich from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8. The annual event includes a luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. as well as a shopping boutique featuring over 30 exhibitors offering jewelry, home décor, clothing and accessories, leather handbags and shoes, hand-embroidered linens, stationery and Christmas and holiday decorations. Out there… La Taqueria plans to open at 10 Greenwich Ave. at the former location of Second Time Around. The taco restaurant is the creation of renowned chef Dennis Lake, corporate chef and co-owner of New York City’s Glaze Teriyaki Grill.
Out there… The Arts and the Spirit Committee of Christ Church Greenwich is hosting “Follow the Star: Nativities of the World,” from Nov. 8 to Nov. 11. The exhibit will feature 100 unique universal crèche scenes created by master craftsmen and artisans from around the world. The four-day event will kick off with a Patron Preview Party on Thursday, Nov. 8, with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and live music. Proceeds will benefit Neighbor to Neighbor and Domus Kids.
