Fox’s new drama ‘The Gifted’ has San Antonio link

October 10, 2017 GMT

“The Gifted,” Fox’s compelling new family drama that’s set in the “X-Men” universe, features a main character who appears to be from San Antonio — or at least connected to the Alamo City in a sinister way.

The series, produced in association with Marvel Studios, tells the emotional story of a suburban couple in Atlanta whose ordinary lives are rocked by a shocking discovery: Their two teenage children possess mutant powers.

The Struckers are forced to go on the run from a hostile government. To further their escape, mom Caitlin (Dallas native Amy Acker, “Angel”) and dad Reed (Stephen Moyer, “True Blood”) seek help from an underground network of mutants — including one who not only possesses special powers, but a connection to San Antonio.

In a promo for the second episode, which airs at 8 p.m. tonight on Fox, up popped a mugshot profile of Marcos Diaz, aka Eclipse, from none other than the San Antonio Police Dept.

Eclipse, a mutant who helps organize the Underground Railroad movement, is able to manipulate photons and light. His goal is to usher mutants to safety and away from those bent on keeping their powers under lock and key, Sentinel Services.

In interviews, British actor Sean Teale, who plays him, indicated he also has a criminal history.

“He’s a boy that at a very young age is kicked out of the home,” Teale explained in an article on Entertainment Weekly’s online site (ew.com). “He was from a wealthy family but was forced to live in a cardboard box in Colombia, and to survive, he had to do a lot of things he isn’t proud of. … He’s searching for family, he’s searching for a place to belong and for the right to be a mutant. It’s quite hard to find that. He’s trying to do what’s right.”
