Former congressman’s wife, Ann Ashford, announces candidacy
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska’s Omaha-centered 2nd congressional district race will again see an Ashford versus Eastman matchup in the Democratic primary — but this time, it’ll be former Rep. Brad Ashford’s wife, Ann, who is seeking office.
The Omaha World-Herald reports 58-year-old Ann Ferlic Ashford announced Friday that she’ll seek the House seat her husband won in 2014. Brad Ashford lost his bid for a second term in 2016 to Republican Don Bacon, who has just begun his second term.
Brad Ashford had sought to challenge Bacon again last year, but lost the Democratic primary to political newcomer Kara Eastman. Eastman announced about six weeks after her Nov. 6 loss to Bacon that she would run for the seat again in 2020.
