Police: N.Y. duo stole Rogaine, heartburn medication from Westport CVS
WESTPORT — Two New Yorkers face shoplifting-related charges after they attempted to steal almost $1,000 worth of items, including Rogaine and heartburn medication, from a local CVS store.
Luis Moure, 31, of New York, N.Y., was charged with fifth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny and possession of a shoplifting device.
Rachel Brown, 32, of New York, N.Y., was charged with conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny.
Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to CVS for a report of a shoplifting. When the officers got there, police said, they saw the suspects getting into a vehicle and detained them while they investigated.
A store employee told officers they saw the man, later identified as Moure, put items — including Rogaine and heartburn medication — into a big orange and black bag. The two then left the store without paying for the items, police said.
Officers saw the bag the employee mentioned in the front of the vehicle between Moure and Brown.
“The bag was found to be lined with special material in an attempt to pass merchandise through store sensors undetected,” police said.
Officers found $975 worth of items in the bag and in the trunk of the vehicle, police said.
Moure was initially held on a $10,000 bond but was released on a promise to appear after a review by the bail commissioner, police said. Brown was released after posting a $500 bond.
Both are expected in court in Norwalk on May 22.
