Humble cheer squad beats-out competition at championship

April 2, 2018

After winning big at a cheerleading championship, one of Kris Williams’ cheerleading students was so pleased that she insisted on wearing not only her prize ring, but also her prize jacket to school the next day, despite the fact that it was not jacket weather.

“They were just so proud,” Williams said.

Williams is a co-owner of Encore Elite All-Star Cheer and Tumbling gym in Humble.

Team Revolt, the gym’s junior prep team consisting of 10 cheerleaders ages 14 years old and younger, competed in the Cheer USA Top Gun Championship finals on March 25, earning rings for their division win and jackets for their overall high point win against competitors across all experience levels.

Williams has had several cheer teams bring home wins in the past, but this group’s victory was rather unique, she said, because most of them were beginners. This is the first time one of William’s beginner teams have been this successful at competition.

“I’ve never been prouder or lucky enough to have one like this,” Williams said. “Typically, our beginner teams do come far, but this team meshes so well. I don’t know what makes this group different, except they’re at every practice, interested to learn, they want to be better and work very well together. The proof is in the pudding. This is the perfect example of what being present and focusing can do for you.”

Team Revolt, along with all of Encore Elite’s competition-level teams, have won the right to compete in The One – an exclusive national cheerleading competition – in New Orleans April 14 and 15. Considering her students’ success so far, Williams has high hopes.

The 2017-2018 season is wrapping up, but the Encore Elite gym is currently holding tryouts for the 2018-2019 season.
