Top Kosovo Serb Leader Injured
PRISTINA, Yugoslavia (AP) _ A top moderate Kosovo Serb leader was shot in the leg at his Pristina apartment, NATO peacekeepers said today.
Momcilo Trajkovic, the leader of the Serb National Council, which is looking after Serb interests in Kosovo, was shot in the thigh when he opened his apartment door to unknown assailants Sunday morning.
``We don’t know if it was an attempted assassination,″ said Capt. Stefan Eder of the NATO press office.
Trajkovic, who has represented the dwindling Serb population in Kosovo in talks with international officials, managed to call NATO peacekeepers stationed in Kosovo after the attack.
NATO forces rushed him to a Pristina hospital, the private Beta news agency said.
Trajkovic told Beta he heard the culprits speak Albanian before he opened the door.
Bernard Kouchner, the U.N. administrator of Kosovo, was expected to visit Trajkovic in the hospital later today.
