La Hacienda Healthcare hosts annual Senior Olympics

October 28, 2017

HARLINGEN — La Hacienda Healthcare in Harlingen held its annual Senior Olympics yesterday. Nursing facilities from other parts of the Valley also took part in the event.

More than 100 seniors participated this year from Weslaco Nursing & Rehab, Windsor Atrium (Harlingen), Harlingen Nursing Center and Retama Manor Nursing Centers from both Harlingen and Raymondville.

Residents took part in games such as Cheese Please, Hacienda 500, Basketball Throw, Tumbalos (bowling), Ring Toss and a cake walk.

“I really enjoy it, everybody does, I believe”, said Woody Maddox, of Retama Manor in Harlingen.

“I’m excited to participate in the cake walk and win a cake,” said Hector Perez, who is a resident at Retama Manor.

“I come because I love helping senior citizens and doing (community) service,” said Ryan Castillo, a 10-year-old student from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Brownsville.
