Deputies accuse North Carolina woman of burning 2-year-old
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a North Carolina woman after a 2-year-old girl suffered burns as her hair was being done.
Cumberland County Sheriff Ennis Wright says on the department’s Facebook page that Beverly Turner turned herself in on Tuesday night, and a second woman is being sought. Both are charged with felony child abuse.
Investigators say the mother of the 2-year-old agreed to have her hair done by Turner’s roommate, identified as Tasha Chappell. The sheriff’s office says while Chappell was adding braid extensions, she dipped the child’s hair in hot water. Police quote Chappell as saying the child moved and that the hair touched her back and removed skin.
Turner is being held in the county jail on a $50,000 bond. It’s not known if she has an attorney.
