Roundup: GHS girls water polo wins a pair at Choate tourney
The Greenwich High School girls water polo team posted a pair of solid victories at the Choate Invitational on Saturday, topping Loomis Chaffee School and Greenwich Academy.
The Cardinals rolled to a resounding 21-2 win over Loomis Chaffee and defeated Greenwich Academy, 21-16.
Against Loomis, Charlotte Hallissey scored five goals, as did Annie Robinson. Kellen Carlson tallied three times and Jenna Handali had two goals. Kaila Carroll also scored twice for the Cardinals.
In their victory against Greenwich Academy — their second of the season against the Gators — Carroll had a team-high nine goals. Robinson added four goals and Hallisey struck for five goals.
Handali added two more goals in the winning effort. Mariam Obaiah added a goal for Greenwich.
GREENWICH HIGH BOYS LACROSSE
The Cardinals evened their record to 3-3 with their second straight win, a 12-5 victory over St. Joseph on the road.
Leo Johnson registered four goals and two assists, while Matt Baugher tallied four times for Greenwich. Jack Feda had one goal and two assists and Matt Davey had one goal and one assist for the Cards.
Charlie Graves and Jackson Trimmer each had one goal, while Lance Large and Nick Veronis each assisted on one goal.
Connor Santry made eight saves in goal and Zach Moore won 12 of the 20 faceoffs he took for Greenwich.
SACRED HEART LACROSSE
Sacred Heart added another impressive win to its ledger, posting a 15-2 win over visiting King School in an FAA matchup held on Friday.
Hilary Hoover, Katie Keller, Molly Haggerty and Fiona Lewis scored two goals apiece to pace the Tigers (3-1). Gracie Lillis had one goal and one assist, while Amelia Sheehan tallied one goal and three assists.
Hannah Dempsey and Jacey Heffernan each registered one goal and one assist, while Lily Deconcini had one goal for the victors. Ryan Smith notched two assist and had four draw controls and Morgan Smith had one goal and three draw controls in the winning effort. Sammy Clark contributed one goal and Athena Corroon intercepted two passes for Sacred Heart, which is hosting Hotchkiss School on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Bruins cruised to a 6-1 win over King School Friday in an FAA match held at the Italian Center in Stamford. The Bruins moved their record to 4-0 with the triumph.
Ben Powis played first singles for Brunswick and registered a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-5 win. Ryan Glanville won his match at second singles for Brunswick, 6-1, 6-1. Third singles saw Aidan Reilly notch a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Hayden Hoover/John DeLucia were victorious at first doubles, 6-0, 6-1, while Nick Saah/Will McKinnon were 6-2, 6-0 winners at No. 2 for the Bruins.
Alex Penn and Mac Aube had a perfect day at No. 3, taking a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
