Kingwood Medical Center cancels South Tower expansion open house to encourage flood bond meeting attendance

July 2, 2018 GMT

Kingwood Medical Center has decided to cancel its open house event showcasing the center’s fifth floor expansion, which features 16 additional intermediate care beds and 22 cardiac and neuro intensive care beds.

The event, which was set for July 10, would have overlapped the Harris County flood bond meeting that same night at Kingwood Park High School. Kingwood Medical Center’s decision to cancel is intended to allow staff and community members to attend the bond meeting in order to learn about and discuss proposed flood mitigation projects that would affect the San Jacinto River Watershed.

“Having been through Hurricane Harvey, we know how much the outcome of this meeting will impact our community today and in the future,” says a statement from Devon Alexander, Kingwood Medical Center’s director of community relations.

Currently, there are no plans to reschedule the open house, but Kingwood Medical Center is looking to get the new additions up and running for patients in the next couple of weeks.
