Thousands still without power in CT as rain takes down trees, branches

UPDATE: 2:15 P.M.

There are 9,842 Eversource and United Illuminating customers in the dark Thursday afternoon because of heavy rain and wind taking down branches and trees across Connecticut.

Eversource outages are up from this morning at 5,061 — the worst of which are in Thompson (850), Killingly (604) and Tolland (201).

Otherwise, Middletown has 60 customers out, Bethany has 40 and New Milford, Seymour and Westport each have less than five customers without power through Eversource.

United Illuminating has put a dent in restoration, with only 4,781 customers now without power.

Other outages in UI’s service area are experiencing outages less than 100. They are as follows:

Nearly 12,000 customers are without power Thursday afternoon.

The outages are caused by heavy rain and wind that has taken down trees and branches.

Eversource is reporting 4,042 outages, the most in the eastern half of Connecticut.

Outages are also reported in Middletown, Torrington, Killingworth, Guilford and Greenwich.

United Illuminating is reporting 7,899 customers without electricity.

Hardest hit communities include 3,959 in New Haven, 2,913 in Bridgeport, 454 in West Haven and 418 in North Haven.

UI outages are also reported in Fairfield, Derby, Shelton, Hamden, Woodbridge and Milford.
