Welt wallops 6 HRs in 5 days
BULLHEAD CITY — Lady T-birds junior shortstop/right-handed pitcher Sammie Welt has been so hot during the second half of the season that she has earned state-wide recognition for her exploits.
In AZCENTRAL.COM’s story “Arizona high school softball Week 8 top performers list,” Welt earned recognition for her recent performances in the batter’s box.
“(Welt) went 8-for-12 with four home runs and nine RBIs. She has six home runs in her past five games,” said the story, which was written by the Arizona Republic’s Richard Obert on Sunday.
Mohave High School’s slugger went 0-for-4, as the Lady Badgers cooled Welt’s jets during Mohave’s 12-8 road victory at Prescott High School on Tuesday.
Prior to Mohave’s victory over Prescott, Welt hammered six home runs in five consecutive games, going 15-for-23, with two doubles, 17 RBI and 13 runs scored in six contests between April 4-Monday.
Welt’s home run streak increased her total from four to 10, as the T-birds ended their 19-game losing streak during her hitting rampage.
Mohave has gone on to win 5-of-7 games since Welt’s bat caught fire.
