Police: Man throws brick at Virginia senator’s office door

July 23, 2018

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — Police charged a man with throwing a brick at the door of U.S. Sen. Mark Warner’s office in southwest Virginia, shattering the glass.

Roanoke Police spokeswoman Caitlyn Cline says someone reported a man carrying bricks around Monday. Responding officers didn’t find anyone, but later received a report of the damaged door.

Police arrested 36-year-old James Trainor and charged him with property damage. He’s still in custody.

Warner tweeted they’re grateful for the department’s “professional response.”

Court records show a James Trainor with the same birthdate pleaded guilty in 2015 to second-degree attempted murder in a 2013 Bland County incident. The Roanoke Times reported that police documents state Trainor hit a man with an SUV, then stole his baseball cap.

A call to Trainor’s attorney in that case wasn’t immediately returned.
