GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Kerri Shields had 16 points and four 3-pointers to help Boston College upset Virginia 66-57 on Thursday night in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

Kristen Doherty added 15 points for the Eagles (12-18). They blew a 13-point lead but recovered to become the second No. 11 seed to win an ACC tournament game. They will play 15th-ranked and third-seeded North Carolina (26-5) in a quarterfinal Friday night.

Ataira Franklin had 17 points and Faith Randolph had 15 for the sixth-seeded Cavaliers (16-14). They had the ball down 59-57 with a minute left but Tessah Holt stole it from Franklin and hit a layup through contact with 56.5 seconds left.

She missed the free throw but Eagles got the offensive rebound, Holt hit two free throws with 42.3 seconds left and Katie Zenevitch added two more with 31.5 seconds remaining to help BC pull away.
