Man arrested for third DUI
A Beatrice man faces his third DUI after being arrested following a domestic disturbance.
Scott E. Tumpach, 51, was arrested for third-offense aggravated DUI, domestic assault, refusal to submit to a preliminary breath test and two counts child abuse following the incident, which occurred Thursday evening after police were called to a disturbance in the 200 block of North Bell Street.
According to court documents, police were advised that Tumpach had left the residence in a blue Jeep with two children. The vehicle was found in the 1200 block of Meriwether Street and three people were inside. Tumpach was asked to step out of the vehicle and appeared to have been drinking.
Tumpach allegedly told officers he had gotten in a verbal argument with a woman and took to the kids let things calm down. He allegedly told the officer he had consumed six beers and was not willing to perform sobriety maneuvers or a breath test. He provided a breath sample at the jail that revealed an alcohol level of .208. He had prior DUI convictions for September 2005 and April 2011.
One of the minors who was in the vehicle told police they had seen Tumpach standing over the victim, who was on the floor, punching her in the head. The victim also reported being punched in the head and was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center for treatment.
The children were turned over to the Department of Health and Human Services.
Bond was set at $7,500 with a 10 percent deposit. Tumpach’s next hearing is set for May 8.
