Nationwide CenturyLink outage occurs; little information provided by company
Nationwide outages of phone and internet services occurred Thursday, apparently as a result of a problem with CenturyLink.
The communications giant provided little information on the widespread, hours-long outage.
In the early afternoon the company posted this Tweet:
“Our network is experiencing a disruption affecting customer services. We understand some customers are currently unable to generate tickets through the CTL help portal. We know how important services are to our customers and are working to restore services as quickly as possible.”
And at 5:40 p.m., Linda Johnson of CenturyLink corporate communications, emailed an update to The World-Herald: “The CenturyLink network is still experiencing a disruption affecting customer services. The CenturyLink technical teams will continue to work until services are restored.”
At 10:47 p.m., CenturyLink announced on Twitter that the company’s engineers had “identified a network element that was impacting customer services.” The company estimated that services would be restored within four hours of the tweet’s posting.
No information was available on the cause or extent of the outage.
