School police report 2 student arrests as semester begins
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials made two arrests of students on allegations of threats against Henderson high schools as a new school year began in the Las Vegas area.
Clark County school police Capt. Ken Young tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that a 16-year-old male student was arrested Monday after he was found with a loaded handgun at Green Valley High School.
The student’s name wasn’t released due to his age. He faces weapon on school property charges.
The other arrest came Sunday, after school officials investigated two tips about plans for school violence.
One report was deemed unfounded, but Young says the other resulted in the arrest of a male Foothill High School student.
The tips came through SafeVoice, a statewide mobile app that lets students anonymously report bullying or school threats.
