Woman charged with sending Collins threat to be arraigned
BANGOR, Maine (AP) — A woman charged with sending a threatening letter to the home of Maine U.S. Sen Susan Collins has been indicted and is scheduled to appear in federal court later this week.
Burlington resident Suzanne Muscara was arrested earlier this month after authorities said she mailed starch to Collins. Authorities say she also sent a threatening note saying the substance was anthrax, which it wasn’t.
Federal court officials say Muscara is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in Bangor. Court officials say Muscara remains in custody. She was subject to a detention hearing last week, but officials say the hearing was waived.
Authorities say Muscara’s letter was intercepted at a mail sorting facility and never reached Collins. Muscara has said she didn’t think the threat would be taken seriously.
