Umpqua Valley Christian handles Bandon, 12-3

The third-ranked Umpqua Valley Christian baseball team notched its 20th victory of the season, using a couple of big innings to defeat Bandon, 12-3, Friday night in a nonleague game at Bill Gray Stadium at Legion Field.

Tyson Sanders went 3-for-4 for the Monarchs (20-7), who have won six straight and eight of their last nine. Aaron Buechley was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and Sam Guastaferro went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs.

UVC, trailing 1-0, scored five times in the bottom of the second inning and tacked on six more in the fourth.

Buechley got the pitching decision, allowing six hits and two runs over five innings with five strikeouts and no walks. KC Pettibone pitched scoreless ball over the last two innings, fanning four.

Braydon Freitag took the loss for the Tigers (12-6), giving up eight hits and five earned runs in four innings.
