Bryant Gets X-rays on Right Ankle

February 21, 2001

DALLAS (AP) _ Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA’s second-leading scorer, underwent X-rays on his right ankle late Tuesday night to determine the severity of an injury sustained in a collision with Shaquille O’Neal.

Bryant was covering Dallas’ Steve Nash with about 2:33 left in a 119-109 victory by the Lakers when he stepped on the foot of O’Neal, who didn’t see his teammate coming.

Bryant was down on the court for several minutes, but got up on his own and stayed in the game a little longer. He even scored the Lakers’ next basket and snatched away a rebound on Dallas’ ensuing possession. He scored 19 points on 5-of-16 shooting.

In the locker room after the game, Bryant’s ankle was taped and he was receiving treatment. He was not available for comment.
