Badgers (4-1)

Coach: Tony Granato, 24-16-1 in his second season at UW and overall.

Player to watch: Sophomore center Trent Frederic is one of two Badgers players who have at least one point in four of five games (Will Johnson is the other). Frederic has two goals and three assists. He had two goals and two assists in four games against Northern Michigan last season.

Injury report: Sophomore defenseman JD Greenway (undisclosed) is out.

You should know: UW is 2-for-16 in power-play opportunities. Before scoring against Merrimack on Saturday, the Badgers had gone three games without a power-play goal, their longest stretch since Jan. 16-23, 2016. ... The Badgers have trailed for only 76 seconds out of the 300 minutes they’ve played. That 0.4 percent trailing is seventh in the country, although the six teams with a lower percentage have all played fewer games.

Wildcats (3-1)

Coach: Grant Potulny, first season at Northern Michigan and overall.

Player to watch: Senior left wing Robbie Payne scored two goals in each of the Wildcats’ first two games and one in the third. In last season’s split with the Badgers at the Resch Center, he scored a pair of goals and had six points.

You should know: Northern Michigan completed a road sweep of Western Collegiate Hockey Association foe Ferris State last Saturday, with Darien Craighead scoring with 0.5 seconds remaining for a 1-0 victory. Goaltender Atte Tolvanen stopped 75 of 77 shots in the series and recorded his seventh collegiate shutout in his 61st start. ... The Wildcats were picked for seventh in the WCHA after finishing eighth in the 10-team league in their final season under coach Walt Kyle.
