Four NC schools among top 12 in latest college baseball poll

North Carolina schools account for four of the top 12 teams in the latest Baseball America College Top 25.

No. 2 North Carolina State captured its 10th straight ACC series win over the weekend, taking two of three from Duke in Durham to move to 31-8 overall and 15-6 in league play. SEC power Florida remained No. 1 in the national poll.

The Wolfpack face No. 7 East Carolina Tuesday in Raleigh before a three-game weekend matchup against No. 10 North Carolina.

Speaking of the Pirates, ECU (30-9, 8-4 American) climbed four spots to seventh in this week’s poll after an undefeated week that included a win over Duke and series sweep of Memphis.

ECU takes on Houston in a weekend set after Tuesday’s matchup with the Wolfpack.

North Carolina (27-13, 15-6 ACC) climbed nine spots to 10th after finishing a weekend sweep of ACC foe Georgia Tech in Chapel Hill. Saturday’s series clincher was a wild extra-inning affair that included a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Heels recover from a four-run deficit.

The Heels take on Coastal Carolina and Western Carolina in the middle of the week before coming to Raleigh to take on the Pack Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Duke checks in at No. 12 in Monday’s poll, down four spots following a midweek loss to ECU and a series loss to NCSU.

Duke (31-10, 13-7 ACC) plays Davidson Tuesday in Charlotte before traveling to Virginia Tech for a three-game series this weekend.
