March 3, 2019

BOSTON (AP) — University of Massachusetts President Marty Meehan is expected to discuss the school’s coming opportunities and challenges at his annual State of the University address.

The former Democratic Congressman is scheduled to give the address Monday at the University of Massachusetts Club in Boston.

It will be Meehan’s third State of the University address. Leading up to the speech, he has visited each of the university’s five campuses to meet with students and faculty.

Meehan’s annual report at the end of 2018 noted that the university’s total enrollment rose to a record 74,500, and its research portfolio reached $670 million, third highest in the state behind Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Among those expected to attend his address are Republican Gov. Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Gov. Karyn Polito.
