Elizabeth Krueger, 91, Beaver Dam
Elizabeth (Betty) M. Krueger, 91, Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Randolph Continental Manor.
Elizabeth was born Dec. 8, 1926, the daughter of George Roberts and Hazel (Herrick) Roberts of Jefferson, Iowa. She completed her high school studies in Chicago, and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in the early years of World War II. She married her husband of 73 years, Alden G. Krueger, at Fort Bliss Chapel in El Paso, Texas, on Oct. 8, 1944.
Betty believed in giving back to the community with volunteer work at Clothes for Kids, Red Cross and a number of scout programs. Betty also worked in several capacities including as a bookkeeper at Spurgeon’s department store, first aid nurse at Green Giant and as a CPR/advanced lifesaving instructor for Moraine Park Technical College. One of her greatest pleasures was being a nurse at the Camp Byron summer retreat for the developmentally disabled. Over the years, Betty also worked as a home health care nurse. This particular job gave her a sometimes sobering look at the frailty and perils of advanced age. She navigated life with a loving and compassionate heart, many times opening her home to those in need. Betty’s artwork was a source of personal pride and satisfaction. She mailed out more than 70 hand-painted cards for Christmas 2017. Like her smile, these hand crafted gifts of love brightened the lives of her many friends and family members. I imagine spring will be exceptionally colorful this year as Betty coaches the good Lord on pallete.
She is survived by four sons, William, Michael (Cheryl), Richard and Paul (Crystal), numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and Alden Jr.’s loving bride, Mary Ann Krueger.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alden Krueger; and her son, Alden Jr. (aka OZ).
A memorial gathering will be held at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Monday, March 19, from 3-5:30 p.m. Elizabeth’s military honors, a 21-gun salute, will be conducted at 5:15 p.m. by Beaver Dam American Legion Post 146. Join us in a celebration of this woman’s remarkable life.
