Rolled 304 opens doors to a rolling success at mall

A relatively new desert, rolled ice cream, started as a street food in Thailand before becoming popularized in the United States. One of the first rolled ice cream shops in the U.S., Ice Pan opened its doors in Los Angeles in 2010. Since then rolled ice cream shops have slowly popped up across the country with Huntington getting it’s first one, Kustom Kreams, opening downtown last year.

There’s a new rolled ice cream shop in the Huntington Mall, Rolled 304 opened its doors on Monday, Oct. 15, and hopes the success just keeps rolling on. The new ice cream shop is located in the former home of Yogurt in Love between AT&T Wireless and Kay Jewelers.

“We have another ice cream shop at the Charleston Town Center (Scrapers.) The only other places to get ice cream at the mall are Dippin’ Dots and Dave’s. So we thought it would be a good idea to come here with a unique style of ice cream,” Courtney Beckett, manager of Rolled 304 explained. “Because there used to be a frozen yogurt shop in this space, we had to switch several things around so that our machines would fit in there. We also put in a sneeze guard so people could watch us make the ice cream without worrying about contamination. We had to remove some of the lights that were over top of it. We have a new menu board coming in and we are waiting on a new light-up sign outside.”

Ice cream starts at $4.50 for a small plus one topping, and $5.50 for a large plus one topping. Additional toppings such as cookies, fresh fruit, sprinkles, and cereal can be added for 50 cents each. There are also $6 specialty ice creams such as the Banana Split which has banana, strawberry, and pineapple mixed in with the ice cream.

“Everything we have begins with a vanilla base which is liquid. If you would prefer a different flavor such as chocolate, we make it by adding a flavored syrup. Whatever add-ins we chose we add to the liquid base and they are chopped up, then mixed, flattened and rolled up after it freezes,” Beckett said. “My favorite topping to mix in is honestly Fruity Pebbles.”

Rolled 304 is located in the Huntington Mall near the food court entrance at 500MallRoad. It is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sundays.
