Town administrator in South Carolina pleads to theft
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A former town administrator in South Carolina has pleaded guilty to stealing federal funds.
The U.S. Attorney’s office said in a news release Monday that 48-year-old Harold Dewayne Ennis Jr. of Allendale pleaded guilty in U.S. District court. Ennis had been the town administrator in Allendale since about 2000.
The news release said Ennis began diverting funds from the town for personal and unofficial uses in 2015. A statement says the money was used for vehicle purchases, automobile repairs, home repairs. He was also accused of receiving payment from the town while he was working elsewhere.
The statement did not say how much money Ennis took.
He faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced later by Senior U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie.
