Easton police warn of ‘spoofing’ calls

May 12, 2019 GMT

EASTON — Town police said some residents recently reported getting phone calls that showed up as coming from the Easton Police Department, but was actually a company trying to sell something.

Police posted the warning to Facebook on Friday.

“There are many ways to spoof a number and we have no way to prevent this at this time,” police said.

The department said the best course of action in this situation is just to “simply hang up” if the call is in fact not from the police department.

“As far as we know, this is not widespread,” police said, “but we wanted to make sure the public was aware.”
