CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina has reached an agreement in principle for baseball coach Mike Fox to return next season.

School officials announced the agreement Friday, but no terms were disclosed.

In his 20th season at his alma mater, Fox led the Tar Heels to their seventh College World Series appearance in 13 years and earned Atlantic Coast Conference coach of the year honors after guiding the team to a second straight Coastal Division title. His contract expires June 30.

Athletic director Bubba Cunningham says he and Fox will “work out the details in the near future” on a new deal for a coach he says “has done an outstanding job ... for two decades in building one of the top baseball programs in the country.”
