Georgia man dies after car slams into Louisiana utility pole
ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — Louisiana State Police say a Georgia man died when his car sped off of a two-lane highway, hit a utility pole and overturned while a trooper followed to try to make a traffic stop.
A news release says 28-year-old Jarvis J. Jones of Atlanta died about 9:40 p.m. Friday after running off Louisiana Highway 496 about 4.3 miles (7 kilometers) west of Alexandria.
Master Trooper Daniel “Scott” Moreau said in an email Monday that Jones’ 2019 Toyota Camry ran a stop sign. A trooper saw him and followed to try to pull him over.
The news release said Jones turned onto the highway, sped up, and lost control before the trooper caught up with him.
Police say Jones was not using his seat belt.
