PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Eight juveniles were arrested after several fights broke out at a Rhode Island mall on Saturday night, police said.

During the brawls, a security guard was punched in the face and a knife was recovered at the scene, police said.

A disagreement involving two young men broke out on the third floor of the Providence Place Mall at about 9 p.m., police Lt. Roger Aspinall told WJAR-TV.

The disagreement developed into two large groups of people creating a disturbance.

In a brawl on the first floor, one suspect punched a security guard in the face, and he used work-issued pepper spray to disperse the crowd, Maj. David Lapatin told The Providence Journal.

Another security guard reported seeing the same suspect with a folding knife, which was later recovered.

There was also another fight outside of the mall involving three young people, which briefly blocked traffic.

Those arrested will be charged with disorderly conduct, assault and weapon possession.
