Grundy State’s Attorney Helland running for Secretary of State
MORRIS – Grundy County State’s Attorney Jason Helland plans to run for Illinois Secretary of State, he confirmed on Thursday night.
“I intend to make Grundy County residents proud,” he told the Morris Herald-News. “The state of Illinois has a tax and spend problem largely due to career politicians and poor leadership. I believe I can help straighten that mess out as our next Secretary of State.”
Helland will run against Democratic Secretary of State Jesse White, who has served in the role since 1999.
“My No. 1 priorities will remain my family and my job,” Helland said. “I have experience balancing out campaign life with my duties and obligations and can handle the workload”
Helland has met with Gov. Bruce Rauner’s campaign staff and he decided to seek the position.
Last November, Helland, a Republican, won re-election as the Grundy County State’s Attorney. He was elected as state’s attorney in November 2012 over Democrat John Bates.
