Cy Ranch and Westfield met for the first time ever in the battle of the Mustangs. The meeting didn’t disappoint.

Westfield (11-1, 7-0) beat Cy Ranch (11-1, 8-0) 24-17 in overtime, Saturday, Nov. 24, at Thorne Stadium in the Division II Region 2 Area round.

Westfield will face Mesquite Horn next week in the region semifinals.

In overtime, Rayshawn James scored on a 17-yard run to give Westfield a one-touchdown lead.

Needing an answer, quarterback Logan McDougald’s pick on fourth-and-2 sealed the win for Westfield.

Malachai Jones’ 30-yard one-handed catch, in the back of the end zone, from Ra’Quon Washington gave Westfield an early 7-0 lead.

An interception by Rance McInnis gave Cy Ranch the ball, then McDougald scored on a 1-yard run, after Westfield was called for two defensive holding penalties.

The game was tied 7-7 at halftime.

David Alvarenga’s 33-yard field goal made it 10-7 with 7:05 left in the third quarter after Dyllon Peavy’s 74-yard interception return put the offense at the Cy Ranch 6-yard line.

After a turnover by Washington, Willie Eldridge scored on a 1-yard run to give Cy Ranch a 14-10 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Washington’s 27-yard pass to James put Westfield on top 17-14 with 8:24 left in the game.

Austin Rychlik’s 20-yard field goal tied it at 17 with five minutes remaining. CJ Hardy’s 64-yard catch set up the score.

Rychlik had a chance to win it with four seconds left but came out short on a 37-yard field goal attempt.

Westfield beat Klein 10-6, Nov. 16, at Leonard George Stadium in the Bi-District round.

Westfield will face Mesquite Horn in the 6A Division II Region 2 semifinals at 7 p.m. next Friday at Sam Houston State’s Bowers Stadium in Huntsville.
