MU women at App State looking for their 2nd win
BOONE, N.C. - Marshall University wants to parlay its first victory this season into a two-game women’s basketball win streak at 2 p.m. Sunday against Applachian State in the Holmes Convocation Center.
Marshall (1-3) walloped Bluefield State College, 82-29, in a Tuesday home game in Cam Henderson Center.
Senior guard Shayna Gore led Marshall with 22 points and surpassed 1,500 in her career. Senior guard Taylor Porter had 12 points, five rebounds and five steals. Junior Khadaijia Brooks snagged 11 rebounds.
The Herd held the Big Blues to 10 points in the second half.
Appalachian State won its last three games against UNC Greensboro (68-65), Davidson (81-78) and Elon (65-62).
Tierra Wilson and Pre Stanley top the Mountaineers with scoring averages of 11.0 and 10.5 respectively.
The series between Marshall and Appalachian State dates back to 1981 when the teams were Southern Conference rivals. Appalachian State holds a 23-19 series lead.
