Badgers men’s hockey gameday: Follow Game 23 at Penn State
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Putting Trent Frederic back into the lineup was just the start of the changes for the University of Wisconsin men’s hockey team for its game Saturday at No. 14 Penn State (6 p.m., BTN, 1310 AM).
All four forward lines were shuffled after No. 15 UW’s 5-1 loss to the Nittany Lions on Friday. Frederic is back as the top-line center after he scored four goals Friday to help the U.S. win the bronze medal at the World Junior Championship.
This will be Frederic’s eighth game in the last 12 days, but he averaged only 10:04 of ice time per game at the World Juniors. He usually plays significantly more than that for the Badgers, but we’ll see how Tony Granato uses him Saturday night.
Matt Ustaski and Jason Dhooghe are also in the lineup, while forwards Matthew Freytag and Jarod Zirbel and defenseman Tim Davison exited.
Kyle Hayton, who stopped all 17 shots he faced in a relief role Friday, is getting the start in goal for UW.
