Springfield police arrest 4 on heroin charges
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Police say they have taken a major bite out of the city’s drug trafficking network, arresting four people and taking heroin with an estimated street value of more than $100,000 out of circulation.
The arrests were made during a series of raids on Tuesday.
Police Sgt. John Delaney said the biggest bust was at an Oak Grove Avenue home where two people were arrested and more than 1,000 grams of pure uncut heroin were seized. Police say the heroin could have been cut into 20,000 bags and sold for $5 per bag on the streets.
Police also seized more than $30,000 in cash, cellphones and drug paraphernalia during the last raid.
The suspects were scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
Springfield police were assisted by state police, the FBI and ICE.
