BOURNE, Mass. (AP) — The head of the Massachusetts National Guard is honoring U.S. Rep. William Keating for his contribution to the military unit.

Maj. Gen. L. Scott Rice, adjutant general of the Massachusetts National Guard, will present Keating with the Charles Dick Medal of Merit. The award ceremony is scheduled for Sunday morning at Otis Air National Guard base on Cape Cod.

The Charles Dick Medal of Merit was established in 1988 to recognize the contributions to the National Guard by elected lawmakers or state governors.

Rice wrote in his nomination letter that Keating is a strong supporter of the National Guard military mission with an extensive track record of powerful advocacy on behalf of the Massachusetts National Guard.

The award is a 2 ½-inch medal attached to a gold and red ribbon.
