Don’t forget to donate blood this holiday season

December 27, 2018 GMT

NORFOLK - If you still have some time off of work this holiday season the American Red Cross is encouraging you to donate blood at an upcoming blood drive.

Communications Manager Samantha Pollard says they currently need all blood types, but especially Type O.

“If you know that you are type O positive or type O negative we would be so grateful to see you this time of year. That’s because type O positive is the most common blood type in the U.S. Type O negative can be safely transfused into anybody of any blood type because its the universal blood type.”

Pollard says Nebraska has some of the highest blood donor rates per capita for its population and encourages people to continue donating.

She says if you donate now until January 6th you will receive a long-sleeved Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.

If you want to see where upcoming blood drives will be or make an appointment call the Red Cross, go to the website, or download the blood donor app.
