Making sweet music

Piano players needed outside All Occasions Events & Floral in James Street Plaza

Mike Luusua tickled the ivory keys just outside of All Occasions Events & Floral Monday at the site of the fourth piano placed in downtown Ludington by Ed Santarelli. Santarelli said he first got the idea while visiting a northern Michigan town, saw people playing the piano and fell in love with the idea. Santarelli, the founder of LudRock, has music running through his veins, and he said placing pianos in the downtown area makes it more of a happy place.

The fourth piano was donated by Cornerstone Baptist Church, according to Santarelli. The first three pianos have been placed at the House of Flavors in downtown Ludington, outside of My Sister’s Closet and the Ludington Jaycees mini-golf course located in Stearns Park.

Santarelli said he has received several calls from people wanting to donate their pianos to the cause.

“One of the things that I love about this,” Santarelli said, “learning the stories behind the pianos.”
