Texas Workforce Commission seminar coming to The Woodlands
Local business owners trying to find their way through the maze of employment laws will have a chance to get a better understanding of state and federal employment rules and regulations during a seminar set for April in The Woodlands.
The Texas Workforce Commission has scheduled a two-day seminar on the topic at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center for April 19 and April 20. The commission holds a series of seminars throughout Texas on the topics but the upcoming seminar in The Woodlands will be the first time the commission has held such a seminar in the township.
“We’re eager that they’re coming here,” said Gil Staley, the chief executive officer of The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership, adding that the partnership and the commission work closely together. The partnership works to attract businesses and promote job growth in The Woodlands, while the commission is a state agency that tracks unemployment numbers across Texas, but also works to boost job growth through workforce development.
According to a statement, “The Texas Business Conference brings valuable resources to help employers effectively navigate through state and federal employment laws.”
Staley said the seminar would be especially helpful for small businesses. During the seminar topics will include Texas employment law and the basics of hiring, as well discussions about federal and Texas wage and hour laws. Attendees will also receive the latest publication entitled “Especially for Texas Employers, which addresses basic legal issues regarding hiring, pay, post-employment and work-separation policies.”
Business owners or people wishing to attend the conference in The Woodlands, or any of the other conferences at other locations across the state, may register in advance online, by mail or at the event.
