WISCONSIN DELLS — Freshman Grace Schmidt scored 18 points and the Luther Prep girls basketball team won its third straight game by defeating Adams-Friendship 54-25 in a nonconference, neutral site game at JustAgame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells on Saturday.

The Phoenix were able to take advantage of a 1-3-1 zone defensive look used by Adams-Friendship (1-4) to score from the three-point line.

Luther Prep’s (3-1) Naomi Bridgemann was 4-of-4 from three-point range and finished with 12 points.

“Our shooters were able to knock down shots,” Luther Prep head coach Mark Schroeder said. “The girls did a great job playing hard-nosed defense. The atmosphere at the (JustAgame Fieldhouse) gets the girls excited to play. The girls were ready to play.”

Adams-Friendship managed 11 first-half points and did not have a player in double-figures scoring.

Teams have been focusing their defensive attention on Schmidt which has led to scoring chances for others.

“Teams have been trying to cling down on her which has opened up shots for our shooters on the outside,” Schroeder said. “It’s been fun watching the girls play a good inside-out game and very unselfish basketball. The girls don’t care who scores. The last couple of games we’ve seen the court very well.”

Sophomore guard Grace Kieselhorst had six points for the Phoenix.

Adams-Friendship’s Kayleigh Lent tallied nine points.

Luther Prep will host Marshall on Tuesday.
