Lord, Wilmington Blank Rival Tewksbury
Bobby Lord scored a pair of goals and the Wilmington High boys hockey team easily skated past neighboring rival Tewksbury, 7-0, during a clash at the Breakaway Ice Center on Wednesday night.
In other action, Billerica was defeated by Waltham, 4-1.
Tom Worob, Dan Woods and Andrew Sullivan added a goal and assist during the surprising road rout.
Michael Ducharme set up a pair of goals for the Wildcats. Wilmington led 2-0 after one period on goals by Lord and Joe Hill.
Sullivan and Woods added tallies to make it 4-0. But Wilmington really pulled away with three goals in the final 51 seconds of the second period as Worob, Lord and Chris Spinazola all found the back of the net. It was the first varsity goals for Hill and Spinazola.
Ryan St. Jean made 23 saves for the shutout.
Junior Jake Callery led the way with 2 goals and 1 assist to power the local team at home.
Defenseman Kyle McManus and senior captain Adam Berger each added a goal. Patrick Crowley chipped in with 2 assists. Jared Debruin and Joe Gagnon notched an assist each. Freshman goalie Preston Wilson was solid between the pipes.
Senior RJ Page broke a 1-1 tie with 3:24 left in the third period to lift the Rams.
Jack Duggan set up the winning goal. Shawsheen (7-4) trailed 1-0 after two periods. Sophomore Dan McGaffigan, assisted by Beau Ramsey, tied it 1-1. Shawsheen held a 42-26 shots advantage, as goalie Bobby Mitza made 25 saves.
Matt Albert collected a goal and assist to power the Blue Knights to the tie.
Grafton tied it with just 58 seconds remaining. Jared Simmons also scored for Lunenburg/Ayer Shirley (9-2-1).
Suubi Nkugwa netted 22 points, including six 3-pointers, but the Lions dropped the MVC encounter Tuesday.
Chris McCarthy compiled 17 points, while Graham Jeffries added 8 points and 11 rebounds for CHS (4-7, 2-4 MVC).
Down 41-30 at the half, Chelmsford cut the deficit to six points with the ball a couple of times in the last three minutes, but couldn’t convert.
