Brunswick lacrosse, baseball teams victorious

Brunswick School built a seven-goal first half lead, then hung on to register a 9-8 win over host Avon Old Farms School Wednesday in a Western New England Division I game.

Ranked seventh nationally, the Bruins raised their record to 12-0 overall and 8-0 in the division. Avon is 10-2 overall and 7-1 in division play.

Cooper Moore scored four goals, while Michael Gottlieb and Christian Ronda added one goal and one assist apiece for the Bruins. Brunswick held an 8-1 halftime advantage. AJ Delgado, Lucas Delgado and Liam Fairback each had one goal in the win.

The Winged Beavers outscored the Bruins 4-0 in the third quarter and 3-1 in the final stanza to close to within 9-8. Christian Barnard made eight saves in goal for Brunswick, which hosts rival Salisbury School on Friday at 7 p.m.

Salisbury (11-0) is ranked second in the nation.


The Bruins overcame a two-run deficit to defeat visiting Greens Farms Academy, 7-2, in an FAA game held on Wednesday. Brunswick, which celebrated its Senior Day, improved its record to 11-5 overall and 9-3 in the FAA.

Trailing 2-0 after Greens Farms scored a pair of third-inning runs, Brunswick tied the score when Luke Fisher delivered a two-run single inthe bottom half of the inning.

In the fourth inning, Aidan Redahan hit a sacrifice fly, giving the home team the lead for good at 3-2. Holding a 5-2 lead in the sixth inning, Brunswick added two more runs.

A throwing error on a ball hit by Danny Lauter sent two Bruins runners home, making it 7-2. Leo Socci and Redahan each went 2 for 3, while Lauter and Fisher each knocked in two runs. Joe Henry allowed two runs in three innings and Josh Feldman went 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win. Reed Mascolo retiried four batters in relief to close out the game for Brunswick.

Brunswick and Hamden Hall each finished with 9-3 league records, good for second place in the FAA. A league-sanctioned coin flip which team will get the No. 2 seed and a bye into the FAA Tournament semifinals.
