Tracey Vaughan, Stu Cabe return to Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre
It’s back to the beginning for Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre.
The theater’s 2019 season marks the return of executive director Tracey Vaughan and the arrival of new artistic director Stu Cabe, who has been involved with the theater since 1986 in a variety of roles including as an actor, singer, dancer, set builder, company manager and board member.
Vaughan served as executive director for two seasons in recent years and is returning this season after a brief hiatus.
“We are so excited to announce not only our new (old) leadership team, but also a return to some of the most basic elements that have made CdA Summer Theatre a local favorite for over five decades,” Vaughan said in a news release.
Those most basic elements include professional mentoring for aspiring actors and theater artists.
“CdA Summer Theatre has always been a training ground for up-and-coming actors, and dozens have gone on to fantastic careers that include Broadway, movies and TV,” Cabe said.
This season, Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre will produce “Beauty and the Beast” from June 13-30; “Oklahoma” from July 11-28; and “Smokey Joes’ Café” from Aug. 8-25.
“From an artistic director stand point, our three-show season is also adding the old with the new,” Cabe said. “‘Beauty and the Beast’ is a new classic, ‘Oklahoma’ is an old classic being done in a new and exciting way, while ‘Smokey Joe’s Café’ is the perfect blend of new and old. We can’t wait for people to see this season.”
Auditions for those productions, as well as mid-summer staged readings of “Crimes of the Heart” and another piece, will be announced at a later date, are being held Jan. 12-13.
