Authorities: North Carolina worker dies in forklift accident
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — An employee working at a North Carolina distribution center died Thursday in an accident involving a forklift, according to authorities.
The BIC Corp. employee was at the company’s center in Charlotte when the accident happened, BIC officials confirmed. First responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene, the Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency said.
Company officials did not identify the worker or comment further on the circumstances surrounding the death, but called it “a tragic accident,” according to a statement obtained by news outlets.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said they were investigating in coordination with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The fatality was the first at BIC’s Charlotte distribution center since the site opened in 2005, The Charlotte Observer quoted BIC Group spokesman Robert Miller as saying.
BIC Corp. produces razors and stationery, among other products.
