Official says fire that destroyed building was intentional
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An official with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says a fire that destroyed an unfinished Alabama apartment building and injured a Birmingham firefighter was set intentionally.
Al.com reports a $5,000 reward is being offered to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest. A leader with the ATF National Response Team, Paul Claflin, said Wednesday that an investigation into the blaze has determined it was purposefully set.
Officials say they know where the fire started, but have not said how it was set. Firefighters responded to the blaze early one morning last week and found the four-story apartment building covered in flames. That building and a nearby law office were destroyed.
An investigation is ongoing.
