Colorado deputy wounded during burglary call
SAN LUIS, Colo. (AP) — Police in southern Colorado say a deputy has been shot multiple times while responding to a burglary call.
The Costilla County Sheriff’s Office says the incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday at a rural residential area near Fort Garland but no other details were released.
The Sheriff’s Office says the officer was taken to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in stable condition.
The name of the deputy was not released.
The Colorado State Patrol said later Wednesday morning that police were searching the Costilla County area for a man identified as Jackie Wampler Jr. It said Wampler should be considered armed and dangerous.
