Police ID victim who died after Dec. 20 road rage punch
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Topeka police on Saturday identified a driver who died days after being punched in a road rage incident by another driver.
Police said in a news release that Charles McPeek, 55, died Friday, a week after the violent confrontation happened on Dec. 20. The incident began when the driver of a sport utility vehicle and McPeek, who was driving a car, pulled over along the Sardou Bridge in north Topeka, got out of their vehicles and began arguing, police said. The driver of the SUV then punched McPeek and fled the scene, leaving McPeek unconscious on the side of the road, police said.
McPeek was later taken to a hospital with critical injuries.
Police have not said whether they know the identity of the other driver, but are asking for the public’s help in providing any information or video footage from the area of the incident.
