3rd seed still possible for Mad Ants
The Mad Ants, who clinched a playoff spot today with a 116-100 victory over the Long Island Nets, in front of a whopping 363 fans at the Barclays Center, could still get the third of four seeds for the Eastern Conference playoffs.
The Mad Ants (29-20) finish the regular season Saturday at Memorial Coliseum against the Canton Charge (29-19), which has the tiebreaker over the Mad Ants because of a 3-0 record in the season series. For Fort Wayne to overtake the Charge for the third seed, the Charge would have to lose Friday at Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Saturday at the Coliseum.
If the Mad Ants remain in the fourth slot, they would face league-leading Raptors 905 in a best-of-3 first-round series. The third seed will most likely play Maine, though Delaware remains a possibility.
Something else to watch is what happens with Jarrod Uthoff, whose second 10-day contract with the Dallas Mavericks expires Wednesday. If the Mavericks want to keep him, they would have to sign him to a standard contract. Otherwise, he could sign with someone else, sit out or rejoin the Mad Ants. I would imagine, barring another NBA deal, he would want to return to Fort Wayne to continue to impress the scouts.
